MedSafetyWeek 2024 – Global Campaign to Prevent Side Effects

This Week is All About “Preventing Side Effects”

MedSafetyWeek, organized by the Swedish Uppsala Monitoring Centre, will take place this year from November 4 to 10, 2024. In collaboration with national drug regulatory authorities, this annual campaign aims to raise awareness about adverse drug reactions. Millions of people take medication regularly, but not all achieve the intended therapeutic effect. The campaign’s goal is to ensure safe medication practices for patients and to prevent adverse drug reactions.

In today’s “one-size-fits-all” approach to drug therapy safety, genetic differences between patients are often not taken into account. This frequently results in a single medication being effective for one patient but ineffective or associated with side effects for another. For advancements in healthcare, it is essential to report any accompanying symptoms and prescribe appropriate medications in a suitable dosage.

How PGXperts Contributes to Preventing Side Effects

In this context, PGXperts plays a central role. As an innovative MedTech company based in Fürth, we specialize in using pharmacogenetics to review drug therapy safety.

Our PGXperts system provides physicians with evidence-based knowledge about the interactions between medications and a patient’s genetic characteristics. This enables a comprehensive analysis of medication, taking into account specific interaction risks, including interactions between medications, genetic characteristics, and food.

With this information, PGXperts provides healthcare professionals with information on clinical consequences and guidance on adjusting the medication. Our goal is to support physicians in tailoring medication selection and dosage to the genetic makeup of their patients. This brings us one step closer to safer and more effective patient care.
